About Distinguished Leadership Awards

The Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute’s Distinguished Leadership Awards recognize men and women who have adopted the heart of community trusteeship. There are five specific leadership categories to nominate within, and nominees in these categories must be a GDMLI student or alumni. The five categories of the Distinguished Leadership Awards include Business, Government, Education, Neighborhood, and Civic.

The person selected as the winner of the individual Distinguished Leadership Awards will have made significant and notable contributions for the betterment of the Greater Des Moines community within that category.

Outstanding communication skills, creativity, trusteeship, strong principles and dedication to the concept of strengthening and transforming the Greater Des Moines business, government, education, neighborhood, and civic community is the criteria for the awards.

The Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute’s overall and most prestigious community leadership award, the A. Arthur Davis Distinguished Community Leadership Award is recognition for those who have adopted the heart of community trusteeship and have made significant and notable contributions for the betterment of the Greater Des Moines community. Nominees for this award do not need to be a graduate of the Institute.

•  Demonstrates a positive regard for the dignity and worth of others.
•  Acts as an agent for change and takes the lead when appropriate.
•  Is a systems thinker and understands the interrelationships and structures that underlie complex situations which contribute to the whole.
•  Displays an ability to positively influence people, activities and factors.
•  Demonstrates leadership as well as membership in community, state, national, or International organizations.
•  Exhibits commitment to career progression and is a leader in his/her chosen field.
•  May or may not be a Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute graduate.

Nomination are announced every March with the awards luncheon held in June!
