Board Connections
In Partnership with the United Way
“Board Connections” is an on-line database system that matches volunteers with volunteer needs of United Way affiliates. The system contains profiles for 229 non-profit organizations and over 500 volunteer opportunities that include board member service, committee work and field service projects. Profiles include information on the organization’s initiatives and mission, current board members, a listing of volunteer needs and description of the role and responsibilities expected of the volunteer. The database is searchable by 14 different key phrases such as homeless, teen, family violence and so on.
The database will provide GDMLI Alumni the opportunity to match their own personal priorities and passions with needs in the community.
United Way presented a class to the Community Leadership Program about connecting with Non-Profit Organizations and using the Board Connections database in May 2007. This class was so highly rated that it was added to the 2008 curriculum! Together with the United Way, GDMLI Alumni and the CLP Curriculum Committee will host the “Board Connections” demonstration and non-profit fair on May 8, 2008.
If you are a Non Profit Organization interesting in presenting at this class, please contact Rebecca Batcheller at rbatcheller@desmoinesmetro.com
