| | The curriculum includes a balanced combination of retreats, bi-monthly afternoon classes, and small group activities.
The curriculum is designed to:
Connect class members to existing and emerging leaders in the community.
Inspire class members to enhance leadership skills by getting involved and giving back to our community.
Challenge class members’ perspective of the community’s leadership needs.
Develop a strong and active community leadership base while creating lifelong professional relationships.
Classes:
- Bi-monthly Thursday afternoons from approximately 3-7 p.m.
- Held at various locations in the Greater Des Moines region
- Based on Knowledge & Skill Objectives
Retreats:
- Opening Retreat (Friday All Day/Saturday A.M. in September)
- Youth Leadership Initiative (Friday All Day)
- Mid Year Retreat (Friday All Day in January)
- Graduation (Friday Day in June)
Small Group Learning Students are broken into smaller groups in which they can:
- discuss leadership skills and community issues
- compare industry standards
- break-down information on a more personal level.
Knowledge Objectives If Des Moines is going to continue to be a strong, thriving, competitive community, our leaders need to be well versed in many areas. The topics for the 9 month program are based on the following Knowledge Objectives:
- Lifelong Learning
- Human Services
- Government
- Health & Wellness
- Quality of Life
- Community Issues
Skill Objectives Each class also focuses on various leadership skills found in the book "Leadership Challenge" by Kouzes & Posner:
