Curriculum
The curriculum is designed to expand the
participant’s knowledge of community issues, enhance
leadership skills, encourage community involvement, and
provide opportunities for the development of
professional relationships. A few of our most popular
classes include:
Knowledge Objectives
If Des Moines is going to continue to be a strong,
thriving, competitive community, our leaders need to be
well versed in many areas. The topics for the 9 month
program are based on the following Knowledge Objectives:
Lifelong Learning
Human Services
Government
Health & Wellness
Quality of Life
Community Issues
Skill Objectives
Each class also focuses on various leadership skills
found in the book "Leadership Challenge":
Model the Way
Encourage the Heart
Inspire a Shared Vision
Encourage Others to Act
Challenge the Process
Peer & Small Group Learning
Students are broken into 11 Peer Learning Groups (PLG)
in which they can discuss leadership skills, community
issues, compare industry standards, and break down the
information on a more personal level. Each PLG is
directed by alumni members serving on the Curriculum
Committee.
No matter what your area of Leadership expertise or
interest, the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute
will connect, inspire, and challenge our community
leaders to do more in the Greater Des Moines region.
