Project Overview
House of Mercy in Des Moines provides clinical services for women undergoing substance abuse treatment, transitional housing and permanent housing. The House of Mercy's program goals are for women to become alcohol- and drug-free, move into permanent housing and begin the steps towards self-sufficiency. The permanent housing facility offers a warm feel of home for those it serves, but the facility is in desperate need of repair.
The Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute (GDMLI) Class of 2012 has chosen to renovate the House of Mercy permanent housing facility as its service project, house 2 HOME. The 60 class participants are already hard at work reaching out to community partners for their involvement and have committed to 100% financial participation in the project.
Project Scope
Project details:
- 4000-square-foot permanent housing renovation located in the Capitol Park neighborhood
- Four to six resident families involved with the renovation project
- Six scheduled on-site workdays to complete the renovation
- Fundraising goal to complete renovation: $180,000

- Siding & Gutters
- Landscaping
- Furniture
- Paint
- Flooring
- Appliances
- Cabinets, Vanities and Countertops
These critical renovations will help provide an empowering, comfortable and secure place for the women and children who call this facility home.
We are hopeful that you will partner with the GDMLI Class of 2012 and sponsor this project to help renovate the permanent housing facility of the House of Mercy that continues to provide services for women and children, giving them a chance at healthier, more peaceful and more productive lives.
